Sexual harassment, by Jun
According to Webster’s dictionary; “Sexual harassment can be any manner of unwelcome sexual attention.” It has nothing to do with friendship. Also, it is not fun or pleasurable. Many victims think something like: “It is beyond the imagination of anyone who has not experienced it. It is a sense of humiliation.” The harasser usually does not know the victim’s feelings and they behave harmfully. Thus, sexual harassment can happen anyplace and to anyone. That means that you could be a victim. The three most commonly proposed solutions to sexual harassment are increasing the legal penalty, educating the public, and finding professional help.
The first solution for sexual harassment is increasing the penalty. The harasser gives mental anguish and threatens the physical and emotional well-being of the person they harass. Also, they enjoy doing this. Therefore, the harasser needs to know about the painful sexual suffering that the victim feels when he or she is being harassed. Although it sounds inhumane, I believe we should give painful suffering experiences to the harasser so that they understand what they have done. Sexual harassment usually happens in the workplace. When it occurs here, an employer should apply the law and fire the harasser in order to produce a better working environment. An employer should also heavily change the harasser.
Another solution to the dangerous sexual harassment situation is to educate the public with strong programs. Colleges, universities, and other public institutions usually offer educational programs which provide learning opportunities about sexual harassment. However, this education effort must be stronger. Every employer, teacher, and students must to go to a program. For example, Brigham Young University professors and students have a sexual harassment program. This program could be really helpful to prevent situations in schools and in the public.
The best solution to sexual harassment is professional help for harasser and the victims. The victim may sometimes have nightmares. They may avoid people and places so they need professional help. Professional therapists who are doctors or professors can help victims feel safe and comfortable. Also, the harasser learns about the victim’s painful symptoms and about their mistakes and faults and has to admit their mistakes.
In conclusion, it is certain that sexual harassment can happen at any place and to anybody. Sexual harassment devastates your physical health and well-being, so we have to prevent harassment. The three best solutions are increasing the legal penalty for harassment, educating the public, and finding professional help. If we ignore the sexual harassment problem, it could damage most of us because it is possible that you and your family can be victims.
